Barbara Leporini� research is related to the accessibility and usability of information systems, and in particular of user interfaces. She is working with the research group of Fabio Patern�, at the Institute for Information Science and Technology (ISTI) at the CNR of Pisa, on a project aiming at creating a number of tools able to analyze applications of different kinds in order to give an integrated and comprehensive evaluation on accessibility and usability and also capable of intervening (via integrations and corrections) to increase application accessibility and usability.
More specifically she has been working on:- Methods and tools to evaluate the accessibility and usability of information for disabled users, at the "Human Interfaces in Information Systems" Laboratory (HIIS) at the ISTI (http://www.isti.cnr.it). For instance, she worked on the creation of a tool for the evaluation of Web site usability and accessibility: MAGENTA .

Methods and tools to improve accessibility and usability in the electronic publishing field.
For example, within a project founded by MIUR and the bank �Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze�, she has been defined a multimedial model to standardize the electronic format of scientific and cultural publications, in a way that they can become accessible also to disabled users. And also, within a project founded by the MIUR, she has been proposed a tool, Book4all to support operators in adapting PDF eBook to provide formats more accessible to visually-impaired students, i.e. the formats XHTML, DAISY, and EPUB.
